Anyway to check motor internals aside from teardown while engines out?

I recently bought a used turbo engine that supposedly has ~60k on it. Its a rebuilt jasper engine (has little numbered tag on it), with a metal head gasket. I plan on swapping this into my na supra over the summer. I'll be replacing all the gaskets and cleaning it up, but I was wondering if there's anyway to test it to make sure its in good shape aside from tearing it apart? I'd like to avoid taking it apart if at all possible. Anyone have experience with jasper 7m's? Thank you.

There's no real way of knowing an engine's condition, without tearing it down.

Sure a compression test and leakdown test will tell you the condition of the sealing of the motor, but no test I am aware of (with the engine out) will tell you the condition of the bearings/oil pump, nor how clean the oil galleys are.

As Doward mentioned, Doing a compression test IMO will be your best bet

A leakdown test would be a little better if somehow you do have a problem, since it will pinpoint the fault easier by going even further than a compression test would. Also its pretty easy to use, and the instructions will aide you out if you do run into a problem.

Sure, but don't these tests require the engine to be running? There maybe nothing I can do without installing it besides just tearing it down.

Edit: My bad I just realized you can do a leakdown test without it running. Thanks a bunch!

There's also a little camera beastie that goes through the spark plug holes to let you inspect the inside of the cylinder... but again, it doesn't check the bits that Doward listed.
