Anybody considered direct injection

Anybody thought about it? I think this is the most important IC technology since variable valve timing. Here's a pic of how Lexus does it. Looks like they just bore into the block. Could probably use old diesel parts for the injectors, pump, etc.

thought about it... SURE!

Bosch has all that you need to do this. But here is the ISSUE.

Just like diesel the fuel pump has to support up to about 20 bar of pressure at a pretty damn good volume rate. Then the injectors have to be specific for this AND the fuel pressure regulator also.

Then you need an ECU to control all this. I know Motec CAN (multi-injection) and the Bosch Motronic racing ecu's also (at a clip of 5,000 EUR for the "entry level" ecu).

cost for any DIY to do will run an easy $20,000-$30,000 if not more.
