my dad cant remember what its for (he worked on em for 5 years lol) anyway he thinks its for noise so you dont here that big sucking of air when u step on it. is this correct?

Search "Helmholtz resonator" on here... there also may be some very subtle benefits to leaving it in place.

I don't think IJ was referring to you. ;)

It does more than just silence the intake... some racing teams spend a fortune on designing and tuning their intake resonators to reduce the fluctuations in the incoming airflow. They do this for reasons other than just noise reduction. The MKIII's resonator is a very efficient design which really doesn't create any restriction at all... I suspect there's a bit more to it's functionality as well but I won't go into that now. I'm certain the benefits that are there are *very* small compared to those seen in professional race cars, boats, etc.... but hey, every little bit helps right?

There's a lot to know about them and I don't know half of it, so I'll leave you to your own research and conclusions. Good luck though.... the net's full of so much biased info on this topic it's almost worth just as much to guess.

There are definitely some poorly designed intake resonators out there which can cause issues... I don't believe the MKIIIs fits this description at all.
