My car is not supposed to have a 3 piece wing on itbut the previous owner decided to install one. I removed the center section really easily because it just had a few screws holding it in place, but I can't seem to get the two side pieces off. they are being held in place with some kind of glue. I have tried putting a rag over a flat head screw and prying it up plus I have just tried the brute force way and just yanking on the damn things.:icon_evil I wanted to know if anyone know of something I can pour or spray on it to loosen it up. Thanks for any info!!

heavy duty somethin or other like acetone or gasoline, depending on how serious you are. acetone should take it off, but might endanger your paint too. it gets fiberglass resin off, thats for sure. id look at other mineral spirits too, but again this probably isnt paint safe.

if you wanna use goo-gone, step up and try gasoline. disclaimer: this is pretty damn dangerous if you've got a pilot light or source of ignition anywhere near you, so do it outside.

reason: both goo-gone and gas are petroleum products, if gas won't take paint off when you spill some filling up, it should be safe to use to clean the adhesive.

as for acetone, im not SURE that it'll destroy the paint, i just know that it's a pretty good solvent on other things. test on an inconspicuous area first, like the tops of the wings you're removing.

Just use a heat gun. It'll soften the tape's glue enough to remove them, then you can use the goo gone or acetone or 3M Hi-Solv to remove the residue.

thats what i was wondering, but then thought about the gas spilling on paintjobs of most cars. its one of the better solvents, but doesn't harm the paint over short periods. might take the wax off but it can always be reapplied.

My mistake Hi-Solv is a name used by another company for the same product. This is the 3M stuff. It works great.

You screw a little spout on the top of that, and it pours out a 1/4" stream. Works well.

Then, the spray is the exact same product, only in an aerosol can.
I've found the spray to work better in almost all situations. The mist makes it stay put, it doesn't run at all. Very handy since it wont carry all kinds of adhesives down the car like it would if it ran...

The acetone worked put when the side of the wing came off it took some of that paint with it!! I found rust under the wing!! I think it is just surface rust so I am going to try to sand it down and hit it with some primer.
