$89 to replace a passenger window motor...

Toyota of Des Moines quoted me at their $89/hour labor charge to replace my passenger side window motor. my door is disasembled already and i have the new motor too. its just ridiculous to replace it. i dunno, i might just give in and pay the price to make my day not suck.

i dunno. im at the point of just eing way to pissed off at the window. its hard as hell to get at and i dont want to have to disasemble the entire door tray assembly and pull the window out and the list goes on.

just take a breath and look at the procedure, i took apart a door once and it seemed like a pita, but once finished it didn't seem that bad.
save yourself the money and do the work yourself or see if any members are in your area that could give a hand

I replaced my drivers side power window motor last summer... it was a PITA... but, 2 hours later it was done and I only spent $20.

Are you replacing the motor and regulator. either way its no more than 30 minutes once you have the panel off. You have to remove the reggulator from the door to install the motor.


Two things to watch out for , Unbolt the window glass first and pull it up to the highest position, the use a block of wood through the door the hold it there. then unbolt all the reg. bolts I think there 6. Carefully unscrew the motor from the reg. beware of the tension spring when you pull the motor the reg. will snap shut and loss of digits will insue if not careful.

Once you learn how to take the panel off its actually one of the easiest things to do in the car. Really. I think installing speakers might be harder.


Here's one for fun:

Try to install your turbo oil feed line into the block with your turbo already securely bolted to the exhaust manifold (using the stock lines). Now THAT was fun. Fucking crush washers.

well. ive got the panel off right now. i have unbolted the glass and pulled it up like u say and put wood under it to hold it up.. i just cant get at the window motor. it appears as if the screws that hold it all in are facing the inside of the car so i cant get a screwdriver on them. maybe ill have to take the whole assembly out. unfortunatly, the haynes manual does not offer much help in this process. ill try to tear into it tonight.

yeah sorry I Kinda ommited the part between the six bolts and the three screws for the motor. ......Remove the entire assembly from door. Thats why i was asking about replacing both parts at once since you have to remove the regs. anyway. Goodluck.

why not just fix the old motor is easy as pie most of the time all you need is gule

cause most of the time the magnet's fall off the side of the motor can and you just glue them back on and wow it works again

it took me 1 hour to change all 4 motors on my camry... cmon! i'm only 18... i'm sure u can do it double the rate -_-

ive changed window motors before. the one in the supra is alittle difficult to get at when u have to take out the whole assembly. with most cars, u can just reach in, unbolt the motor and connections and put the new one in.

on a side note, ive got a friend that has a shop that will help me with it.

so i took it into the local shop, they had it done within 30-45 minutes. ended up being $63.30 after all was said and done. it was pooring hardcore today in iowa too. so i needed my window up asap. it beats driving the 30 minutes to toyota of des moines and then waiting awhile, and then getting charged a minimum of $89. so i think i done good!

hah, it was raining SOOOOOO HARD in teh des moines area ALL day. i couldnt last another day with a 2 inch crack at the top of my passenger side of my car. i didnt have a garage to replace it in. im a fulltime student and a part time worker so time is limited.... oh, i also have a FULL TIME girlfriend, so crap.. i have NO time.

oh, im not of legal age to drink beer. except for on the weekends.
