You will need a 89 harness for it to work flawlessly. You can still buy them from Champion in houston. 89 was a wierd year for the MK3.

That is where I bought mine not too long ago.

Do you want to keep your ecu? Why do you need a new one? Do you have a Soldering iron to fix broken wires?
Any 89+ harness should work as it is grey plug, I think. I have a 88 so i wouldn't know for sure.

Alllright, good thing because I was about to buy a 92 harness cause I was told it would work with no problems.

Thanks for the reply

It's in really bad condition from the previous owner.

ie melted wires, bare wires, and multiple loose connections with sensors popping off like crazy. I want to have a more solid harness overall.

It would work with most stuff, however a few things would be different, like the knock sensor connectors, and the O2 sensor connector, as well as a couple other things.

Really if you want to just plug and play, get an 89 harness.
