51515R Wix oil filter: No warranty claim. Why?

I didn't want to start another thread for something near the topic at hand. Unfortunately I wasn't able to post in older threads...go figure.

I'm planning on using the Wix 51515R oil filter. It has a 500PSI burst rating...blah blah blah.

It has an intended for race use sticker(yeah!) and comes with no warranty or responsibility for damage. Does this have anything to do with the 500PSI capacity of the housing for bursting?

So. Yes and No.

It's possible to install the filter wrong, AND you're using it in a race application. Its kind of the same reason Cometic won't warranty their head gaskets.

I'm sure if it was something physically in the filter that went wrong you could pin it against them, but it would take a miracle if that happened.

I assume you are using the implied you(universal you,) when you were speaking. Most user using the 51515R, R being Race, would be using in a full flow race application and as it were might be misusing it.

What would be the typical misapplication or complication requiring a non-standing warranty...possible debris clogging the filter, when it can nearly withstand 500psi-A theoretical oil explosion.

I've been using the the 51515 on my dodge van for 6 years, used it on my 68 dodge 440 charger before that. I've never used the R version but I would imagine most products made for racing have no warranty.

And yes, general you, thank you for not misinterpreting it. Physically, the difference between a 51515 and a 51515R, visually are not noticeable, other than the aforementioned point, I remember checking the two out side by side because I was interested in the difference between them.

Off the top of my head the box they come in is different, and you get a Wix sticker? :icon_razz

when race is put on anything. The warranty is out the door the minute it is installed.

Full flow, those are good but I really hope that the filter is huge then! As the more it clogs the higher the pressure will be. 500 psi. You will be lucky to sustain 120+ psi in the oil system without breaking something.

They told ya wrong JAV, there is a bypass valve on the 51515R...it's set at 8-11 psi. It flows 28 GPM; I highly doubt you can exceed that even at 120 psi due to the tubing size feeding the filter head from the pump. Here's the additional details on the filter:

I hope you are using that filter on a remote filter head...it's 5.17" tall...stock is 3.4" tall. Might be a bit tight fit

I'm using a Wix 51342 on a remote filter head...it's a Porsche/VW application. Burst strength 350 psi, flows 9 GPM (that's plenty), and bypasses at 16 psi.

The 51342 is 4.82" tall and I wouldn't want to put it in the stock location.

If you are really worried about burst strength, get the CM filter...promise you that lots of other things will break before this filter bursts

Also if my mind serves me right that Race filter is for High Reving applications that would also be inteded for racing. Its been a while since I've messed with wix
