i love the 3s, but why would u downgrade cyl? just seems logical to keep a powerful straight 6 and leave the 4 bangers for the lighter mr2s and celicas, not to say the 3s isnt a powerful engine, but it just seems so illogical

I was going to use that 503 engine code, but most people don't know that. Thanks B.

no problem, i didnt even see your reply on the last page.....

but yeah 503e is totally different design of an engine, it was a 2.1 liter engine capable of producing as much as 1000 hp @40psi on the ct44 toyota turbo.... for endurance and JGTC standards it was tuned to roughly 500-550 hp, being a toyota race motor, it weighed in complete at only 300 lbs with manifolds and turbo (ct44).

That's just retarded, I'm sorry but wow. A 4 banging turbo in a car that needs that str8 6 to get its fat ass down the 1320.

Bullshit...smokey nagata did 190 in europe with a 500hp 3sgte in a mk4...if you knew anything about it you would know its the most tuned motor made by toyota (self proclaimed by toyota), so much so they sent it to yamaha to do the internals

Wrong.

He did that in New Zealand. With the 3S-GTE

He did 190+ in the RB26 car in England

The 1JZ head was all Yamaha's doing as well. The JZ and 3S series engines are Toyota's flagships.

It has all to do with handling; the weight of the engine sits behind the front axle so less understeer and more willing to go around a corner, it is lighter and more responsive than the straight sixes. It will not be a streetable combination but be perfect for on the tracks.
btw, top secret did manage to pull 720hp out of it, although that was a 2.2ltr, it took a T88 @ 1.8bar to get there and I also think it was the 503e race version.

And yes, tuning a 1j or 2j is more cost effective, but that's not the point here.

On a side note, the top secret 3sgte supra is for sale, it's only $110.000....
8-$

I had a 3S in a 3rd gen Celica with a T61. Very fast car but the torque steer was for the birds. Even with the MR2 LSD, it was all over the road when it hit. Everyone that rode in it couldn't believe it was a 4 banger....it was fast.

Even though this supra has a 4 banger in it I still love it. It is extremely light weight and it is very well balanced. It was built for the track not wangan racing. Plus its a 4 cylinder pushing out 700+ hp in a supra. Pretty cool if you ask me.
Output: 720ps/8500rpm

i think the 3sgte was good at the time but also the 4age 20 valve is still a redline beast to me

3S-GTE can be built to rev to 9k too. Also I forgot to mention this wasn't a normal 3S in the Supra it was stroked to 2.2L

I like them as well but they are getting more expensive to get a hold of now like the 1jz because of the low supply left. I love the blacktop 20V

What happened to it????

I sold it to a kid in Tampa. Not sure if it's still around or not. I just couldn't get over the uncontrolability of the car. It was built with forged rods, pistons, large plenum intake, standalone....the works. I bought it already built from a guy who got into money issues. I bought my MKIII after I sold the celica.

Japan still conciders the 3sgte motor king of the hill, and if i recall its still the record holder at pikes peak.

Tajima Nobuhiro broke the record this year in a Suzuki contraption @ 10:01.408 Previous was Rod Millen @ 10:04.06 with a 94 Celica GT Four(3S-GTE), a record that stood for thirteen years.

holy crap! that's awesome! i didnt know that engine could put out 700hp, that's sick! does anybody have an image of the torque curve compared to that of a jz engine? there's so much space in that engine bay after the swap it's almost hilarious. if it weren't for the funny fan placement and all that extra stuff i'm sure you could get in there and sit on one of the front parts/crossmember pieces while you're working on the engine! :p :D

i like it.

does feel weird putting one in a supra, but if it's worked before and the the power curve is where you want it, i say go for it! it is lighter than a jz right? who cares if it's heavy for a 4 cylinder. you could find a lighter one, but would it be as good? meh...i dunno.

cool concept though.
