I know this has been covered, but I have a few questions to add as well. I finally decided to go ahead and do the RHD and 1JZ conversion, but i'm having a tough time deciding between the GTE and the GTTE. Any input on anyone whose had experienc with both? Is one easier to get parts for vs. the other? Also, Venus auto's website doesn't seem to work. Anybody have their contact info? If not anybody have any experience with Flash Options JDM Engine importers? They seem to have good prices, but i'm wary of wiring that much money to some weird company somewhere...I guess any input anyone can give me would be great. I'm extremely familiar with the mk3 supra, having built, painted, and tuned 6 of them in the past 2 years for myself and others. Now I want to make mine even more exotic lol.

Thanks,
Colin

if you get the gtte( assuming you mean the vvti) you might as well get a 2jz, you'll spend almost just as much as a 2jz will cost you.

I've heard that FlashOptions has boned people before. Take heed.

The 1JZ with VVTi will have even less support than the 1JZ - it's just not a common engine for people to swap here in the states. People have done it, but how many people do you know who have done it? Usually they just get the regular 1JZ or go for the 2JZ.
My opinion is buying an engine with little to NO support in your country can be hazardous, and may turn futile if something breaks. At least with the regular 1JZ and 2JZ, you know that there is already a decent amount of parts in the USA [especially for 2JZ, where you can get them from Toyota].

i dealt with flashoptions for my celica clip, and it was a long wait. I had about 6 months on the clip, and i'm still waiting on body panels. the big problem is that they are impossible to get a hold of. every time i've talked to them, they have been very accomodating, and i got everthing i expected, and the body panels are now en route (miscommunication, my fault, they sold the body panels because they thought i didn't want them, and it took them a while to find new ones.) but every time you need to get in touch with them, expect to have to make about 20 phone calls over 2-3 weeks.

i'm not flaming them, but i wouldn't recommend them either. go with jarco if you really want an easy time and good product. you'll pay a little more, but they are top notch.

I think some people get excited and think that the "TT" in the engine code represents "twin turbo". I've seen photos of supposed GTTE and they look like GTE.

That's what confused me, then I read that they did have a twin turbo setup, but it was replaced shortly after with the single turbo 1jzgte instead of the gtte...which confused me even further lol. As you can tell i don't know much about these swaps or motors. So the final verdict is a regular 1JZGTE without the VVT-i is what I want for ease of finding parts and whatnot? How do i know what 1JZ I am getting/ordering when I finally do go through with it?

Does the the plastic piece between the valve covers on a VVTi fit a non-VVTi? Just thought it looked better than "the grill".

When i blew my 7m up, and when i was in the market. I was on ebay i ran across "low milage" 1jz-gte vvt-i.They wanted somewhere in the neighborhood 2,200 plus shipping and i emailed them back , cause the auction did have a reserve.I told them it was slightly outta my price range.well few days go by and the auction ends and the email me back sayin 1,600 plus shipping, due to the winning bidder backing out. They were located somewhere outta canada. It was a full 1jz-gte vvti front clip with manual tranny. The only thing that kept me from doing it was lack of information. I didnt know if there was fitment issues cause of the oil pan and such, cause the motor is a single turbo and not twin.I steered away from it but sometimes i wonder what would of happened if i did buy it.

Lol, ok next question then. If I get a complete soarer front clip with the 1jzgte will I be able to use the dash, guages, and rack and pinion to do the RHD swap? Or should I just hold off and find a supra clip?

Well the thing is, I completely gutted one of my cars, inside and out. So I could paint it right and get all the bodywork perfect. So now I have a shell to work with and do whatever I want...But now the response i'm getting from a few clip companies is it's near impossible because the firewall is completely different on a RHD car as well...so i'd have to cut out the firewall on mine and weld the RHD one in. I am able to do this...but that makes it a much larger project than I had imagined lol. Has anyone actually DONE the RHD swap?

Thanks,
Colin

Most likely not. There are a few companies in Cali that are starting to specialize in RHD conversions on hondas/acuras. The easiest route is just to cut/weld the new firewall in. Then it will all bolt up. If you have a stripped chassis, and can weld, or know a really good welder, it's not that hard, I've heard. Just wathc out for shoddy work. Also, check with your local regulations, as in some states, modifying a firewall makes a car "totalled" according to the DMV.

2ndly. If you do attempt this yourself, remember that the firewall is a structural piece. You will have to weld in braces to keep the chassis from collapsing in on itself with the firewall out. This is a necessary part of every RHD conversion I've read/heard about. And measure everything like a zillion times before you weld.
