Looking at buying one of these motors for cheap. So my question is can they make any hp? I have done some research and I understand that they like to spin rod bearings and only put out 210 hp. So any info on to or not to buy this motor would be great. Thanks.

A big problem is that there isn't much for aftermarket support.

But with enough boost anything can make power.

F1 turbo engines will be like 1.6l making 600+ hp.

My friend has it in his mk2, and from what i can see its a tough little engine with a great sound that you can beat up all day.

Remember some guy with a big single on one making 400HP+ in a first gen celica. Stock block IIRC.

Not a bad engine, but underpowered for the fat MKIII and hard to find parts for.

As poofles said, hard to find parts for unless you're able to source them from Japan. Underpowered to make the MK3 move at all. Now in a lighter car... yeah it'd be great. I've wanted to squeeze one into an AE86 Corolla or a Mazda Miata or some super light car light that. It'd have a great power to weight ratio, with a small single like a GT30R or something like that on there it'd spool nicely and make great power, the only thing that'd have to happen is a battery relocation and lighten up the front end to keep weight balance around 50/50.

Not to terrible. Consider the X90 most likely is an Auto. The supra didnt give up to much of a lead and appeared to keep the distance the same for the duration of the run.

That's probably the worst launch I've seen in my life...and it's even worse that BOTH of them did it. Maybe it's because both motors have no torque? :sarcasm:

Still, no idea on mods from that vid though.

Not that either. It's a good motor, but hard to find parts for and too small for our fat cars.

Parts and displacement aside would you say the motor is about the same the 7M-GTE in terms of reliability levels?

I wouldn't have a huge problem with that if the parts were more accessible.

Keep in mind I'm not trashing the 1G either, I don't have an opinion on it one way or another.

This was my old 1G, I loved the car, I did look at other turbo options etc, but had always planned on a jz again just for the after market support, there's not too many in the uk, only a handful from what i've seen, however there's far more info on the australian forum for them if you wanted to stick with the 1g
