    Why do alot of guys insist on guessing instead of proper diagnosis? 1st step: Determine the health of the engine. Compression and leak down test. 2nd, Examine crankcase ventilation system.

    The differentials are the same. Post 89 had two supporting brackets for the sub-frame. These can easily be installed on a pre-89.

    chasing head bolt threads in the block

    Were the head-bolts difficult to remove? What size tap handle were you using? If the engine was apart before, is it possible someone used hardning permatex on the bolts? Even when dirty, that should glide thru like butter.
