    Gauges don't work-Please help

I’ve got a question, and hopefully someone can help me with this. While working with the alternator I got a short off the main alternator stud. I know I should have disconnected the battery, but I was in a hurry and simply forgot. Now my tach, temp gauge, oil pressure , and (I’m assuming) boost...

What drugs/head injury prompted your Username?

I’ve loved photography ever since I was a little kid, and I’ve been a pro photographer since I was 16 (I just turned 35 this past Sunday). I switched from Pentax equipment to Canon EOS equipment back in 1993. Consequently, EOS has usually been my username on internet forums for Idunnohowmany...

How to get front emblem out

If you’re interested in keeping your emblem, rubbing alcohol can generally remove permanent marker from smooth surfaces. I’d recommend 91 percent alcohol rather than the 70 percent stuff as it works considerably better for removing permanent marker. This is a little trick I picked up...

    7mgte timing question

As others have said, it’s a possibility is that he had the engine at TDC on the exhaust stroke, not the intake. Another possibility would be that a wire going across the top of the engine to the CPS got broken. You could also try starting the car as someone pushes in on the CPS connector...

anyone have torque sheet for arp studs?

You’re entirely correct, and I went back and edited my first post to reflect this. I think the reason I phrased it that was because the ARP’s instruction sheet said “To ensure proper thread engagement and accurate torque readings, clean and re-tap ALL threads in the block...

anyone have torque sheet for arp studs?

I don’t mean to sound like a jerk to anyone, but I’d recommend ignoring the various torque figures quoted by others. I’ve used ARP head bolts or studs for virtually every car I’ve owned in the last fifteen years, and my personal experience has led me to four “personal rules” when using ARP head...

    Engine bay clean up

I get your point. Message received and understood: you know the removal of the EGR is a bad idea. And whether or not you decide to do this, you want to do anything you can to simplify the engine bay. I’ve seen this done on a number of different cars over the years, not just on Hondas. It all...

    Stranded or Solid????

Somebody correct me if I’m wrong, but here’s what I know regarding the situation: solid core wire is generally used in an AC electrical system, whereas stranded wire is used in a DC electrical system. The reason for this isn’t because of additional flexibility with a stranded wire, but rather...

    Engine bay clean up

I’m with jdub on the issue of yanking the EGR: Pull it off with a stock ECU and you’re asking for a lean condition at part throttle (obviously a bad thing). When I was trying to track down the problems with the EGR setup on mine, I had Idunnohowmany friends from back in the days when I had my...

    Fixed one leak...found another!

The turbo oil feed line uses a banjo bolt with two crush washers, while the oil drain back line uses a gasket. If the leak is coming from the turbo lines, the turbo will have to be removed so the crush washers and gasket can be properly replaced. I suppose you could try tightening the hardware...

    wierd wiring problem.

Mine had a very similar problem. When I bought my Supra, I got it “for a song”, so to speak, because it had multiple wiring problems, the result of those wiring problems being that nobody seemed to want to buy it. Fortunately, I’m enough of a geek that I actually ENJOY fixing wiring problems...

to fin or not to fin?

While I like sleepers as much as anyone else, I've always thought the MK3 looked best with a wing, whether it's the 87-88 one piece wing, the 89+ three piece wing or an aftermarket whaletail. But please, for the love of Supras everywhere, don't put on a huge "ricer" wing... Ultimately...

    No electrical power anywere.

If you're going to "go through" the wire's insulation to check for voltage, don't trim off some of the insulation with a knife. Instead, use a small straight pin or safety pin to pierce the insulation on the outside of the wire. This gets you down to the metal conductor in the wire, allowing you...

    Opinions on my parking situation

MODS: If you think this belongs in the Off Topic section, by all means, feel free to move it. My apologies for the excessively wordy post, but I’m hoping to get some opinions on what to do here… A while back, I posted a thread in the Off Topic section entitled “Why I park in the...

    Foggy Clear Turns

I’d really recommend polishing the turn signal by hand rather than with a power buffer, mainly to prevent the burn-through that gaboonviper mentioned. I’ve been doing this on my own cars for years, and have had people ask me how to do this, only to have them wreck their light housings due to...

    Overheard

I know this is a bit off topic, and it’s not something that happened in a Toyota dealer, but I just thought I’d share this one with you guys… Back in the early-mid 90s when I was driving my MK2 P-Type as a daily driver, I was dating a woman named Cyndi. Despite being highly independent, she...

    My first laptop

I got my first laptop back in about 1998 or so...it was a very slow IBM laptop with the keyboard that slid and expanded out to a full size board. It was used, and I didn't pay anything for it, instead trading it for a Powerdyne BD11 centrifugal supercharger that I'd gotten for the 5.0 LX I had...

    Water fall noise?

+1 for listening to jdub... Out of curiousity, how do you know it's not a BHG? I hate to panic you or jump to conclusions, but if you want to FOR SURE whether or not it's a BHG, get the "block test" where the color temp of the test fluid changes from blue to yellow in the presence of...

    Question about Foglight rewire

In all seriousness, supposedly yellow light within a specific degree Kelvin temperature range increases detail definition in things illuminated by that yellow light. As far as I know, the yellow JDM foglights weren’t legal in the U.S., hence the reason why they weren’t used in the U.S...
