That is really weird. I did purchase one for a 1990 supra from schmucks the other day and it was not threaded. If it was i would have had this fixed on Monday, i had to return it so i tested mine and it has elongated this whole thing. I really wish i could have just picked one up. Well...
Update: I removed the starter for the second time. There is not a us version of this one. I had to have it rebuilt. The brushes are completely gone. So tomorrow i should have the car up and running again.
Okay, the MKIV and the MKIII 91-92 dont fit. THey don't have the threads for the bolts to connect to. Also they look different from the propeller shaft angle. See from the picture from Napa's website, they holes are smooth. None of the stores around here have them in stock, so i cant have them...
I have a big problem also, what on earth do i use for a replacement starter. The starters in the stores are not threaded so i cant use them. I have tried a 90 starter and talked to napa about the 1994 n/a supra starter. They are not threaded. What works????
Lock and ignition, wouldnt that mean you would have 2 keys for your car then? That would be very innoying.
I am very confused because when i hotwire it, it doesnt start. Yes, it sounds like something is just kinda spinning, but nothing actually happens.
OKay, not fixed at all. I was really skeptical and unsure what was going on. Well, i drove to Napa to get a new gasket for my thermostat and then i went to trader joes for some dinner. Well, got out and no start again. I was furious! I spent 2.5 hours in the parking lot troubleshooting it.
I...
For some reason, the people at schucks didnt have a gasket for this model. Is the gasket reusable, even though it says to replace it when changing? We are suppose to use the thermostat from the 2jz, right? Are there 2 different thermostats available for the ge and gte?
I found the manual

If anyone else needs to know. Yeah, i was hoping it wasnt there, i just pulled the alternator 2 weeks ago, it would have been nice to do it then, but i didnt know.
So yeah, she starts! GRRR. After all that, i didnt change a single thing. I just spent an hour putting the starter back in and started right up. The only thing i can think of is that the security system might have disabled the start. I dont have the siren connected, so maybe it went off for some...
Yes, the battery light comes on when i turn the key to the on position. THe battery terminals and connections are super tight and brand new. I havent tested the wires from battery to starter yet. I also havent checked the fuse. Being that i thought i was hearing the starter engage but not turn...
BUMP I need help. I just spent 2 hours removing the starter and getting it tested. It runs and functions perfectly! What on earth is going on. It is dark and cold now, so i cant work on it anymore today but i need to fix it tomorrow. Please if you have any other ideas, please let me know.
Does anyone have any other ideas? This starter has never had any problems previous, so i have a hard time believing it would be the starter. If it is the starter, what contacts are required for rebuilding?
yeah, i tried it about 10x and i never got a connection. Also, how challenging is it to replace the starter on the 1jz? I know on my 7mge, it was awful! Is it really in a bad spot when the engine is in the car or not too hard?
Update 10-30-07, 8:11pm: OK, not fixed at all. I was really skeptical and unsure what was going on. Well, i drove to Napa to get a new gasket for my thermostat and then i went to trader joes for some dinner. Well, got out and no start again. I was furious! I spent 2.5 hours in the parking lot...
Just use the 92-94 camry cable, no readjustments required. It fits perfectly with the bracket in stock location, also easy to find in any junk yard. I got a perfect one for 10 bucks!
