How about cutting out the standoffs/clips from the old panel, measuring the depth and cementing them to the new one?

If it's a matter of pride, pursue the matter of the hit and run and accept with grace every ticket you've got comming your way (because if you push the matter, the DA's office probably will too). Just because "everyone else does it" doesn't make it legal or safe. If it's a matter of cash...

I'd probably measure the placement and depth of the standoffs (with the spring clips) and epoxy some acrylic of FG standoffs on the new panel. You can then drill a couple small holes and use some thin pieces of spring steel (rod), music wire, memory wire, etc, to clip it on.

It's actually just two bolts. Roll up the window and take off the inner door panel... I can't recall but I think I had an easier time using a crescent wrench.

It's okay.... I was looking at the taillight relay at first. It's right above the fuse cluster and mine clicks when the fogs are turned on. But.... that's not the right one. If it's near the hood release, you've got it. The white green wire that goes into the relay socket needs to be...

Also, how on earth is your foglight switch controlling your headlights? You're not working with the wrong relay are you?

LOL, Sorry, I misread..... Which position is your red/green, apparently in a couple cases they've been swapped.

I think, if done properly it would give a nice, clean and very high-end feel to the MK-III.... I'm thinking a complete backlit, monochrome LCD though, with the other guages to match. Now, the simple addition of LED's which indicate a gear range does make me think of most of the craptastic...

I think a changing face with either scaled arm or digital arm would be sweet. Not the easiest thing to fab, but it'd be damned cool.

Doesn't look nearly as upgradable as the MAFT Pro... unless I missed something. It looks nice and compact, but for my needs (ie: timing control, a/f control, map) it's just too limited.

FYI - those instructions are for 89+. Exactly which wires do you have connected where?

Yeah, if I recall correctly, it is two seperate switches. The problem is the spring and armateur used to hold the buttons down while releasing the others... I don't think one of those two buttons had a catch to hook on the retainer and hold it down... just one of them did. I could be remembering...

I'd be careful with the dash side grounded. If it's connected to the same white/green that comes from the dimmer you risk burning out the dimmer. Depends on how the dimmer's made, apparently there are two different internal circuits for the pre89 dimmer.

Most people know how bad the air filter is designed.... Got any info on their oil filter? That's kinda like comparing Apples to Ourangatangs.

If you're referring to the whole housing, the shape is different. AFAIK, pre89's are wider and a little shorter.

Asthetics.... and the buttons won't peel.
