I used the regular sized allen socket, and covered it in JB weld... I hammered it straight in and let it sit for a while. Once it sat for a while, it was hard as a rock, and I had no problem busting that sucker loose. That is what I did - and I suggest you try the same.

Never drive without that pulley, it balances the crank... without it your bearings will become shot.

Just sounds like bad luck - I don't think that your compression readings are bad. If I were you I would work on getting the air out of the system first to be able to see what is really going on.
