No you can do that at any time. It will handle decent enough, not the greatest but def an improvement over stock. Esp if your on blown shocks right now, it will ride like a caddy after.

When does it get hot? At stops or moving? How fast did it get hot and cool back down? Could just be a loose connection for the stock gauge sensor. Could be fan clutch. Could be bhg.
