You all were right, it was the tire width.
I swapped to stock wheels with some 205/55R16 all season tires for the winter in case I need to move the car in the snow. The car drives great now.
I found something interesting though, the tires I'm using (the 255 summer tires) have 2 ply lyocell...
Sorry to say, this is why I don't ship to Canada anymore. I've had people angry with me over those fees even though I shipped it exactly the way they asked.
How's the wheel look? Pics?
I was looking at getting an MR2 wheel on ebay for mine. I figured I'd just leave the airbag there unwired... no stock airbag in mine.
Yes, I try not to blindly follow trends. I have seen too many friends ruin their cars and waste their money that way.
Found a nice article detailing the process of fitting a proper rack and pinion unit, and dialing in (er... out) bumpsteer...
Haha, yes I have a decent understanding of suspension. I just haven't had much opportunity to apply it to anything, so it's all just book knowledge. Still better than nothing I suppose.
I still need to check if the rack length (inner socket to inner socket) is the same or close to the same as stock as this is critical to the bumpsteer curve. If the rack length is too long for rack lowering and outer tie rod spacers to fix, or too short for inner tie rod spacers to correct it...
I don't feel bad just because people might think it's a supra... I feel bad someone would do that to a DSM. They are good cars. I miss mine.
Pfft... crankwalk. What is this? 1999?
Mine had a hot tub in the trunk instead of a spare tire.
Also, a dead mouse in the frame under the back seat, where it cannot be removed.... ever.
Other than that the only thing out of the ordinary was a glittery "my little pony" sticker. Probably worth more than the car was. I should have...
So since it's forged.... how would you deal with that? When you weld forged you randomize the grain structure (making it non forged) and weaken it where it was heated beyond a certain point, correct?
I checked tonight and the Supra innter tie rods are M14-1.50 thread, same as the 94-04' Mustang (older Mustangs use a different thread). So if the lengths are correct, the mustang rack will thread onto the supra outer tie rod ends and it will be THAT simple. The Supra inner tie rods won't fit...
My Mazdaspeed 3 has absolutely zero dead spot or slop in the steering, even now at 5 years and 120,000 miles. Every micro movement of the steering will move the car, but it's not nervous. I believe it has a variable ratio rack (could be wrong). I recall reading that the cobra rack is also...
The dealer wants $225 for it. I tightened up the slip section by pressing the outer tube tighter around the inner part. I'm going to see if I can match the u-joints up at the local industrial bearing supply. I've had luck with them on steering shaft joints before.
I'm not entirely convinced...
Well I checked for the tube wear and it seems to be fine. It's tight, no play between the rack and the rack housing.
I had an idea on how to isolate the movement, because sometimes your eyes just play tricks on you when you're dealing with a few degrees of movement like this and I wanted to be...
