The stereo trim is easy to remove. you have to take the ashtray out and remove the bolts from there then theres one on the drivers side down by the shifter, another on the right side of the steering wheel (on the bottom side of the trim). Then it should just pop out. I believe the trims are...

You can rethread it with a kit. Called a tap or something. But that sounds like your best bet to me. Or go redneck and JB weld the new pipe in there.
