7M can run a taller diff gear due to the torque
1JZ run a lower gear and rev it harder
(setup right probably accelerate much the same)
7M at highway speeds will be revving slower
1JZ will be spinning harder
(Fuel economy is debatable as even revving slower the 7m...

I'm not sure if SupraNut has tried it yet but a test kit for combustion gases in the coolant would settle it once and for all.
My "guess" is it's been overheated a few times and the Head is now soft on the exhaust side so when it get hot it lifts allowing...

If your mechanic told you he'd put your 280z HG on backwards/Back to Front or any other way than the correct direction he's talking shit or stoned.
Again from memory (it's been the best part of 15 years) but I seem to remember the Oil...
There are 10 area's on a 7m HG that wouldn't line up if you tried that and you'd need to be stoned or stupid not to notice you'd put it on wrong.
The second you filled any fluids Oil Or Water you'd have wet feet ;)!

LOL the "issue" with the V160 is getting Diff gears for an A70 that are tall enough to make it usable ;)!

I decided on the TKO Tremec and am really happy with how it worked out in the end!
Abu: There's an intermediate plate between what normally would be a Bellhousing and the Trans proper, it's quite wide and that alone is going to cause issues in a MK3, then you have the Extension housing that's 10 mm wider than the tunnel between the seats and to top it off working out a speedo...
William: Go check out a T56 it's not as easy as bolting on a W58/R154 Bellhousing as the stock bellhousing is also part of the front of the trans!
A place here is making a new blank front plate that will allow different Bellhousings to bolt on.

Syst: The T56 is a bit of a problem for Mk3's as the Extension Housing is 220+mm wide and the Tunnel back there is 210mm.
I looked into doing a GenIII swap and still think it would make a perfect Mk3 motor! (Light Compact Powerful and a growing aftermarket)
