Cheap and nasty way we did it in the old days was to find a 4cyl that used the same trans and swap in it's convertor.
Don't know if anything like that exists and be warned with reasonable power you will eventually flatten the fins and end up with 7K stall ;)

Pressure is resistance to flow so the pipe would have less resistance ;)
If a motor was dropping PSI at high rpm the hardpipe might help out there but as you noted peak pressure in these motors is...
You need to use a good quality etch primer as you can't really prep the fins properly without damaging them and normal paint will just fall off eventually.
I resigned as a Moderator so I don't see where that has a bearing on the issue being discussed.
