If the heat range is marginal and he's been cruising a bit then hammering it it could be down to the difference in cylinder temps.....
(If I remember right High Comp BBC's used staggered heat ranges in certain cylinders to try and compensate for this)

You need 1/8 bsp male to 1/8 npt female adaptor.
As I said you can interchange them it's not ideal but it does work as it's only 1 tpi and 5 degree angle difference just be sure to use tape on the fitting.
It's just an air bleed that's activated by the pwr steer pump, one end is plumbed to the intake the other to the accordian hose.
You turn it opens a valve which raises the idle speed so it doesn't stall or lugg the motor.
I personally wouldn't let a WB alter fuel on the base map as in a modded motor there are far too many variables in case something goes wrong.
You'll notice the AFR Gauge reading slower and slower and then it'll become erratic.
