When you close the throttle on a Gas car the turbo will surge against the buildup of pressure/volume and cavitate (the 3 stooges noise)
Our BoV's vent this excess but if the BoV can't flow enough say after fitting a larger turbo you can get back into surge (I ended up adding a 2nd BoV)...
Fluid dynamics.... it will only flow as fast as the point of greatest restriction in this case that's the small port in the fitting that screws into the pan...
You can get away using that as a return with a BB turbo as they have internal 1mm restrictors so flow bugger all but older journal...
