The wheel will still spin freely with a bad wheel bearing. Something similar happened to my friend just this week in his blazer, any speeds above 20 he could feel a rumbling, and it would get progressively worse as speed increased. It was the ABS sensor in his 3 month old wheel bearing.

I know more about cars than my dad, but he wipes the floor with me at just about everything else.
