sounds like your wires may have crossed. take out the radio and play it for about 5 mins....if its really hot, there is a chance your wires for the left side may be touching each other...

because that 12 volts is before you turn the key. your starter requires high amperage to start and if you have a bad battery, it wont supply the right voltage/amperage under load thus making the "clicking" sound.

What colors are the two motor wires going to the fuel pump? any pics would be appreciated?
