The MKIV's system is amazing, and gives a HUGE torque curve that is hard to beat because of the system they use. Without this system the lag is very obvious (there are plently of dyno sheets on SF showing the change).

My friend had an SS in that bodystyle. Ran 3.73's, SLD headers, cam, head work, CAI, tuning.... He then bought a base model LS1 Camaro and with JUST tuning, put down more power and was faster everywhere...

Taking the hub apart and pressing them out and then in is the best way (and the way specified in the TSRM). If it has an ABS ring it's gonna be the only way...

CF targas have been around for a while for MKIV's, and I've never heard of a failure from them. I still plan on buying one eventually since my targa isn't perfect, and it's still heavy...

Personally, I think it would be easier to swap the trannies and stay with a manual. You'll have to swap wiring harnesses and there might be an issue with the throttle linkage (for the kickdown cable), but the rest will all be the same.
