I don't know for sure, but I'd be willing to bet a late 80's Tercel throttle cable would work very well, as well as an AE86 throttle cable. They are both almost the same length IIRC, and they would work perfectly, as that's the way their TBs are setup.

Oh yeah, you're right. I thought it said off a 1989, not of a 1989. Either way, it is possible, and the thread on how to convert a pre-89 to 89+ will provide all the info you need, just do it in the opposite way.

Check my thread in the FAQ section on putting the 89 steering wheel into an 86-88. It's not hard. If you don't want to wire everything up for the cruise relay, it's not hard to just put the 86-88 connector onto the 89 steering wheel, just splice the wires and leave the cruise main switch wire...

The auto cable is 3 pieces. None of them costing over $60 USD. The piece you need I suspect is much cheaper. Tell the mechanic you can bring him the part yourself, just order it from Toyota. Or, do the job yourself. :)

We're talking about a car from 1965. It was not EFI, nor were any of versions of it. The first Supra was the first Toyota to get EFI, with the 4M-E, in 1979.
