Toyota never sold people with pre-89 blocks/cranks the newer stuff. It doesn't change up like that.
If you order a pre-89 crank or block, that's what you'll get, or you'll likely be told it's obsolete/discontinued.
6M and 7M cranks are still available.
Only newer reinforced bare...
If that doesn't work, try the passenger side lock, it's possible the slipring on the driver's side lock cylinder is worn. If it is, chances are the passenger one isn't.

Also, the holding the handle thing was removed from Toyotas in North America for the 1988 model year (across the board). They kept doing it in Japan until who knows when. My brother's JZA80 you still have to hold the handles to...
I'm only stating what Toyota says they should be. Unless you order a brand new one from Toyota, and have it flow tested, any other injector you flow test is suspect.
All I'm saying is that if we had a 2JZ here at work and they tested as low as some peoples do, we'd be replacing them.

If you're below 496cc/min, the injectors are no longer good.
From what I've read, a lot of USDM GTE injectors are testing lower, all that means is that a lot of injectors out there are not working...
If all else fails, use a pulley puller. I doubt it's on there tight enough that a pulley puller would damage it, but even if it does get damaged, you can replace it. Just make sure you don't damage the crank, that's the real money.
