Ahh yes, the PITA brace... forgot about that one when I had to change out my transmission on the 2000. They're also a lot shorter than our cars, less chassis TO flex, which, to me at least, makes me think such a brace (what FM calls the "butterfly" brace) would have some benefit on a Mk3...
They are good engines for highway cruising, especially with stock turbos. Never have to pull out of 5th gear to pass, I love it. Just put ~500 miles on mine this past weekend. :)
I believe you had another thread with pics of the swap, did you not?
Drove my car to Cheyenne, WY and back over the course of about 28 hours this weekend. Put around 500 miles on my car, which is about 4 months worth of normal driving. Didn't miss a beat, and managed 25mpg, which is pretty awesome considering the elevation climbs...
I can see getting 30mpg out...
I'm curious on this one as well, I know we can get the Energy Suspension control arm bushings, but I'd rather support a member of the community where I can.
Also Ronnie, any idea on an ETA for mine? I sent you the money about 3.5 weeks ago now, just wondering, no big hurry.
The danger of not running one being a potential build up of fuel fumes in the engine bay, correct? I have a length of hose running into the front of the right front wheel area...
How difficult (or effective) would it be to make a brace to the shock tower from either the manifold or turbo? Would likely alleviate some of the stress, no? Assuming of course you were on solid mounts, nobody likes torque twist...
It's the bold part I'm wondering about here... by design, a DDP...
In many ways Miatas are similar to Mk3's with consideration to construction, so I wouldn't be surprised if these types of bracing didn't help targa cars out. Short of seam welding, this might be the next best bet.
Would like to hear what more experienced members have to say on the theory though...
That's interesting, does Youtube have a file size limit? I recall once upon a time, they had a 10-minute limit on the video length, but that's since been lifted. Cool videos either way, thanks for posting. :)
Haha, not here sir, but I've heard the guy, his show is pretty damned funny. About the only show I listen to on a regular basis is the Morning Sickness on 98kupd. Phoenix radio station, reminds me of living there. :)
Cool man, you'll have to let us know how the Apexi sounds silenced. :)
As for body work, I tend to leave that stuff to a couple friends and my brother. I've always been more of the driver. ;)
Ahh... thanks! :)
Stock for now, but I just picked up some Tanabes. Debating whether to put them on this car or not, everything on the current car is going onto the 87 chassis for the widebody project...
Beautiful car man... reminds me, mine needs a bath. :p
As for the silencer, I have a 3" Blitz Nur-spec with a silencer. I only use it for road trips to control the natural drone/rasp of the 1j. Around town though, I tend to leave it out, given that I've nearly been ran off the road a couple...
VVTI is a pretty badass technology for having a better powerband, but like redrocco points out, the early 1uz was a more stout engine. Now to find that balance point so you get the best of both worlds... ;)
Gotta keep in mind man, you took an engine from an ultra-luxury limo. What did you...
Wotam? Acronym, or are you being cryptic again Yoda? :p
I've seen ONE like that, I believe it was a Cusco... I have a picture of it at home somewhere, however...
This. I have reason to doubt that the firewall itself is strong enough to hold chassis flex...
That said, our cars have a pretty...
