Steve, you could have a bad ECU... capacitors in these old ECUs are known to go bad and bulge. Not suprising considering their age. :) driftmotion has a capacitor replacement service you can do through them. You could check by popping the cover and seeing if any of them have failed visibly. If...

They may still work but they are getting less current than they are designed for in that case... The resistor pack is meant for lowering the current through low impedance injectors which would otherwise draw too much from straight 12v. High impedance setups should have the resistor pack removed...
