The cooler is located on the back of the head on the PASSENGER SIDE. it is held on by like 8 bolts. IT has a gasket that could be leaking. The EGR does wrap around to the drivers side. It would make sense that it is your problem.

You should do the rewire.
Just because you have connectivity does not mean that the wiring is good. It has to do with the shielding on the wire. It is a known problem so while your in there you might as well take care of it.
