Mystery coolant leak **PICS** (formerly Hole Corroded in Head)

Yes I did, they seem to be ok. Were you looking at the cleaned up pics? The earlier ones show heavy deposits on the block and the hardline a few inches away from either of those fittings. After I wiped off the heavy deposits, the debris was concentrated forward of the original areas.

Um..... no. If this is just a HG job, I could spend as little as 450 dollars to do it RIGHT and not have to worry about the HG again for years and years to come. Even if I need a new head, its not the end of the world. I don't make a habit of pawning my troubles off on others. I stand up and...

Mystery coolant leak **PICS** (formerly Hole Corroded in Head)

That's a great idea cuel, I will try to track down a decent head if possible just in case. Though I've been driving it for a few months now with slow coolant loss with no ill effects, I'm worried that all of a sudden I'll blow the gasket fast and have an overheating engine on the highway 100...

Mystery coolant leak **PICS** (formerly Hole Corroded in Head)

Yup. I'm most definitely getting it machined and looked at by a pro when I pull it. My problem is that I have school and work and won't have an opportunity to do the HG until spring break (March). So the plan as of now is to try to hold off until then when I can take my time and do it RIGHT...

I think I can actually rule that out now. I'll go out and take some pics, but that hard pipe really looks and feels solid. I cleaned it off and can feel a bit of the backside and it seems just fine. The line where the HG rests is looking more and more like the source. Could be that the gasket...

    Mac and a PC

With the exception of the overheating.... :) I've never had a problem with my Toshiba laptop. I use it everyday for a few hours and it has frozen maybe twice in the last year. All that is required is to hold down the power button, then it resets and all is well. :) I've had it 3 years and I...

Mystery coolant leak **PICS** (formerly Hole Corroded in Head)

Well the exhaust is off, but I still can't find the source of the leak. It seems to be the hard line running along the block, but I can't exactly see the opposite side of it. Could also be the head gasket as it is almost seeping out along the gasket. I'm not sure if that's just where the coolant...

    Alternator Bolt Sizes

CRE, you're off your rocker! ;) .... I watch too much British telly. Anywho, IIRC my starter was all 14. Oh and I got two sets of ratcheting wrenches now, let me know if ya ever need to borrow one you don't yet have. One stubby set and one with flex heads. Christmas was good to me. :) My...

    greenish white foamy stuff??

The older guys will jump on you if you ignore anything they say or don't answer their q's directly. This community is VERY helpful and just about the BEST resource available to any mkiii owner, IMO. Get that oil flushed and have a pro look at it or get down and dirty and do a rebuild yourself...

Look at these pictures with me, please.

Exactly. Its somewhat difficult because the correct level is even with the fill hole WHEN LEVEL. So if youwant to be exact, jack it up on all fours and stick your finger in the hole. Otherwise, jack up the front, feel around for the level. In general, I dont think you'll have a problem so...

Mystery coolant leak **PICS** (formerly Hole Corroded in Head)

Well I checked the coolant with a digi MM, and it was 100% inconclusive. I have not done a coolant pressure test as I don't have the equipment readily available. Though I would like to, so I may pay to use the tools in the spring. I need to drive the car tomorrow and Sunday, but on Monday I...

Mystery coolant leak **PICS** (formerly Hole Corroded in Head)

Well I'm off try to find the problem area. I only have a digital MM, so I'll be using that as of now. If it doesn't give any consistent reading, then I'll buy an analog. Thank you Dirgle for the info and link I'll report back with my findings in a few hours.

I thought electrolysis was where you send current through an aqueous solution (water, perhaps) and the current causes the solution to split into smaller compounds. Water -> Hydrogen and Oxygen. With water, those compounds can act to oxidize metal at a very accelerated rate.
