How to get the 7MGTE back in with a 2 ton engine hoist?

Really? Mine is from Harbor freight and has an extended boom. This is mine. http://www.harborfreight.com/2-ton-foldable-shop-crane-35915.html Huh? Every engine hoist I've ever used has an extended boom. Even the "lighter" 2 ton cranes still have a 1/2 ton rating at full extension. I dont...

    replacing lifter shims

I've had a couple heads with cams that weren't very smooth and drove with no problems. One was really bad, but it drove fine. You may be able to have the head line honed, I'm not sure if there any way to replace the "bearing" material that should be on the head short of buying a new head... :(

What Is Unique About Your MK3???

Cold air intakes bring in cold air from outside the engine bay. Stock oem is truly cold air. Yours is 100% NOT a cold air intake any way you look at it. It absolutely makes a big difference in temperature. I'm not sure how else to make it clear, lol. Another unique bit on mine: I have all...

HELP!! swapping gte into care with w58 trans

Wrong. Unless the W58 is broken from previous abuse, it's fine for a GTE. I've been using one at ~8-11lbs of boost for over 10k miles and its good as new. Wrong agian. For some reason it REALLY bugs me when people rag on the w58. It holds just fine at near stock levels. 4cefed.com has a...

    Rock Engine Bearings?

Get the basic set from Aaron @ Driftmotion. $60 for the full set, as I recall, and it's works great. I've used two sets on daily driver GTE's with ~10 psi and had zero problems through ~20k miles. Of course this is all extremely dependent on proper machine work and prep on the block/crank. If...

What Is Unique About Your MK3???

Fixed that for ya. ;) I have an open element too. I'm not dissing you too hard, but dont be delusional. You removed the cold air intake Toyota designed and installed your own HOT air intake. That filter induces much more hot air than a stock air intake ever would.

    Intercooler, whats best?

Out of curiosity, why would you switch to a larger diameter AFTER the cooler? Here's my thought process: The cooler air requires less volume, therefore smaller piping. Larger piping will only slow the air down before it gets to the throttle body/intake where you would really want it flowing...

    Intercooler, whats best?

I've found it very difficult to find any sort of specs on intercoolers. It would be incredible to know even approximate pressure drop at given flowrates, heat exchanging efficiency, something showing heat soak ability/disability (heat capacity), etc... So many facts that are critical to...

AFR really lean at idle only?

How do you know it's not supposed to run leaner at idle? what are you comparing this to? The only time you *really* need to avoid running lean is on power.

Megan Racing EZ Street series coilovers

I'm still debating my suspension set-up. Coilovers are tempting, but to get something of decent build quality and something that might last 5-10 years, it looks like you have to spend upwards of $1200. The super cheap coilovers always scare me. For something with adjustable ride height...

    My 1970 FJ40 restoration

My ex-neighbor from just a few months ago had the nicest FJ40 I've ever seen. I may have to sneak some pics of it. Definitely a VERY cool ride if you clean it up. His looked absolutely brand new. New upholstery everywhere, fresh paint, wheels, tires, lift, etc... Very cool rebuild. Good luck!

My car is ridiculous. Nothing making sense!!

You know you need a new radiator. Don't drive it until you get a radiator. Autozone grand or oem, or aftermarket aluminum. Anything. You might have other problems, but you need a good radiator first. Don't use any bull shit "stop leak" either. That stiff should only be used if you're in the...

What Is Unique About Your MK3???

Haha. Yeah, yeah... Another rarity might be that I have a fully rebuilt w58. Not sure how many others have kept the w58 for a full rebuild.
