Uh... Can i trade you shims? I have a TON that are generally smaller (I think 2.6-2.8) and I've needed larger shims in the past. I'd be fine with an even trade for whatever sizes you need. I think I have 50-100 shims, no exaggeration. I'm sure I'd have whatever size you need if you're looking...
Ian, are there any tricks to telling blow-by apart from turbo oil seals going out? I suppose a catch can would help take blow-by out of the question, correct?
Just need to update the wear parts like hoses, (in this case water pump), and gaskets and it should serve you well. :)

Not sure what would make it run that rich. The stock fuel system should support a good, clean tune well beyond 9psi. I just got an AEM wideband and at ~10 psi it'll go about 11 at WOT. Does it hover around stoich (14.5-14.7) at idle and cruise?

It's ok to stick to Toyota, but it means you need to plan a little and save more $$ for even just ONE drift event. If you go to your drift event and ruin the motor in 15 mins you won't leave feeling accomplished...

How on Earth could you know the head is in any way "warped"? Answer: "You can't". It *might* be, but you have no idea if it is or isn't.
You're making this MUCH more complicated than it likely is. You NEEEEEEEEEEEEEED to machine the head surface for it...
Head should be milled always. Block should be milled too for mhg. Again, head always needs machine work with very few exceptions.
Retorque won't help. Time to pull it.

You didn't machine the head after a bhg? THAT was easily a showstopper right there. Sometimes you can get very, very lucky and it will seal without milling, but not normally.
Sorry it went the way it did, but now you know the importance of proper preparation in engine building. :(

Just be realistic. Price everything out and then double it. Just because a few people have been able to do a 2JZ swap for $4k doesn't mean that you can count on similar results. Used motors are all luck of the draw. You should always plan on the worst. Otherwise you'll end up with a half assed...
Seriously, how much money do you expect to put into this dream build? $25k? $30k? If the answer is no then you'll need to start picking and choosing what parts will actually get you what you want AND what you can afford.
I doubt very much you're actually running 12:1. Very, very much.
How does that shop claim to have achieved that level of compression?

The 5wled one. Looks kinda like a spin star(Metallica logo). Many will work and the brightness isn't an issue if you buy or make a pwm to dim.

stock should hover at 14-15. lean at idle and cruise is generally no biggie. Lean on power is bad news bears.
To give you any meaningful insight, we need some actual numbers, not just "lean".
