Yes you can easilly (sp?) take it off with just a sander. Make sure you take the housing off the turbo first, then sand away. It wont' hurt any thing.

Yes. Oil smoke is pure white when not comming from the combustion chamber. Rear piston ring oil failure makes white smoke.

Make sure you have vacuum comming off the valve covers also. If you dont', you'll be blowing seals all day long.
