You need to put the match mark on the notch, and the crank be straight up. Problem is, the crank pulley(not the damper) is not marked, and needs to be marked before you start.
Actualy the head and block are not timed. You just have dowel pins to line up. As for timing the valve train, 1 is TDC, and the cam marks are straight up to match the notch on the back cover. Also, put the slack of the timing belt at the tension and tight the rest of the way around the srockets...
Do you have your power to the injectors? Power is constant when running or cranking, and the ECU supplies the ground side. The ground will not be supplied if conditions are not met, such as engine position and speed.

Letting the trans ECU control the trans was rhetorical....what you really want is a valve body like from IPT. Raising the shift point is somewhat beneficial, I know. WOT upshifts occur about 5800, and you may have shifted your powerband up.
