I found another option: This 3" in magnaflow 2x2.5" out muffler with dual 3.5" tips would have only a 1/2" gap between the tips, so it would look very similar to the one on the red car pictured above.

I'll look into that Magnaflow, although they have fiberglass packing. I saw this photo of a polished magnaflow in the other thread. Although the inlet is too small at 2.5", the dual 3.5" tips don't appear too large, which made me consider the borla idea.
My Megan muffler has a very loud drone at cruising speeds and I'm considering a Borla muffler because it's the only brand I know of that uses stainless steel packing inside instead of fiberglass which always burns out and gets louder over time.

I find that the positioning of the rear speakers in the Mk3 is so far back and by pointing up, they do a good job of filling in the sound without affecting the frond sound stage too much. I prefer to be "surrounded" by sound, myself.
