No, although the screw is often found to have come out on them. Loctite it back in. Btw, that screw stands up whenever fuel pressure is present. Handy for quick troubleshooting...
Fwiw the reason it gets brittle is because of the turbo water line. It can get 250+ F on that hose where it passes the CPS. The hose came from the factory with an insulating sleeve and the wiring also had one there. That stuff is probably long gone on many cars. I still have both and have...
Jdub: Some of it is from the oxalic acid flush I do every two years, the last of which was last year after making that post. It's hard to completely get all the crap out after using that stuff because it's so effective. It's another reason I use the filter. The next one will have less in it...
The Tefba is a full flow filter and filters nowhere near as fine but it's better than nothing. Easy install and very easy to clean.
TP filters are depth filters in that oil is slowly forced through the entire roll in contrast to a full flow surface filter. That's why a depth filter must be...
I actually have some dissected radiator core pics around here somewhere from a car I repaired a few months back. I'll post 'em up if I can find them. Not a pretty sight.
Nick: I also have opinions on what's best for flushes. Don't get me started ;)
Fast mechanics are usually bad mechanics. I try and work on my car like it's a watch...or an airplane.
You don't have an O2 code. The codes you do have are associated with the AFM. The temp sensor is integral to it. It's that little probe sticking down inside. Since both sensors are completely...
Not a kit but easy to do. SCA means Supplemental Coolant Additives. Time released chemicals stored in the filters used on diesels to make the coolant last a long time. When you have a fleet of trucks with cooling systems measuring in many gallons coolant costs add up.
Rennat: Do you want that...
It has been mentioned before. Several times. Some people even use a toilet paper filter on their coolant. That would seem not to make sense but in reality it works fine. I prefer this filter for coolant but I do use TP on my oil.
Coolant filters are common in the trucking industry but they...
^ That's what I meant about excess capacity. Contrary to popular belief the stock system has some. Easily meets the SAE requirement of a 6% continuous grade on a 100F day with AC and all accessories operating. His car should not be running a normal temp sans stat. Assuming the HG is good it...
I get 'em from fleetfilters.com or filterbarn.com, same places I get most of my filters. They're Donaldson (a premier filter maker not involved in the auto market) but without the supplemental cooling additives. Do not run SCAs in a gas engine.
Napa and Wix also sell equivalents but they can...
Since the thermostat is by far the largest restriction (even when open) in the system if you don't have it installed and the temp gage shows normal you have little to no excess cooling reserve. Assuming it's not the head gasket I'd be checking the radiator for cold spots with an IR gun. Fwiw I...
Changed my coolant filter recently. Thought you guys might like to see it, especially any who feel such filtration is a waste of time. This filter was in service one year on a well maintained cooling system.
I don't get it. They should have failed you on the MIL alone. I also missed you had a 52. Gotta fix that.
Jdub has it right. The engine is actually pretty clean. From the numbers I can see it's in fuel control with the O2 sensor working. You also have no exhaust leaks.
The NOx appears to...
It's an emissions device. However I'm unaware of any emissions test procedure other than the IM240 drive cycle where the dashpot would be involved. Without looking I'm guessing Georgia employs the ASM test where speeds are held constant. In that case the dashpot is moot.
