Need a reliable, cheap dd (AKA I hate VW)

Figure an average $400 car payment these days, right? Now, for what it's worth, I bought, had shipped, ported the head of, replaced all seals of, and bought cams for, my 1jz, for about $4000. This also came with an r154 too. So, for less than a years worth of payments I could have been making, I...

    Another addition to the stable...

That's better. :p Hey, thought I might ask, is that dash mat project dead now, or are you still working on it?

Honestly, in a car that light, 100% stock would probably still run 12's pretty easily. Only thing I would modify would be the downpipe, since the factory y-pipe is a restriction, but other than that... really don't need much motivation for a 2400 lb car. ;)

Limiting RPM in MG-E? Keep idiots from screwing me!

Either one of my old Miatas can tell you that much. Turns out, electronics have little to do with mechanical rev limits. :p

    aftermarket radiator

While it IS a system, I would suggest that the fan is slightly more important than the radiator itself. If you can't flow air through it, you've got yourself a nice heat sink, no matter the material used... Sorry to hear about your troubles with the Fluidyne.

You know you're a Supra owner when...

I call BS on that one, Stancenation wouldn't put something functional on their page. :p Good eye though, I do have a soft spot for the NSX, and the Mk3 is out of focus... You know what else doesn't live in snow zones? Giant spiders, snakes, crocodiles, etc... I laugh at it too though, I've...

Do you leave your Headlights up or down??

Won't really give you a good light spread like the headlights do, BUT... does look pretty cool for pictures, and works during dusk/dawn just fine. :) As for me, if I can see, and I can be seen, I leave my headlights down.

My 88 Turbo vs 05 RSX Type S

x2 Only Acura I've ever raced was a newish TL. Kept up with me better than anyone else had up to that point, that 3.5L isn't a slouch. Told him to turbo it and get back with me when it was ready, that it would be a monster at that point. Was mostly joking, but he went and did it haha. I was...

Need a reliable, cheap dd (AKA I hate VW)

This was the problem my buddy had with his. His clutch literally exploded on him. Upon inspection, it wasn't adjusted properly from the factory... If this car was built in Japan, someone would have lost their job at the very least, but I think his was built in Tennessee or something like that...

    Yo dawg!

Was gonna say, "pics or GTFO", but then you beat me to it. Looks delicious. :D

    Another addition to the stable...

So... when are you going to tell us what's going IN the car? If you say SBC, be prepared to be punched in the wiener. :p

Hey, even the coupes were pretty badass, and you're gonna have fun with that. Doesn't take much to make a 10 second street car with one. There is a build thread in "other cars" you might find interesting or inspiring. ;)

    Project 2.5GT!

Will be interesting to run ours sometime again Clint. Last time we ran it wasn't really fair. :p

    Which one?

Nothing wrong with the gay blue, my 88 was that color, and aside from the fading bumpers, it looked awesome. Tint the windows as much as you can tolerate, and it's a nice contrast! Now, I am not sure which code I had, but if I remember correctly, they are very similar, right?

    Ri54/w58 2jz bellhousing/1j/2j/2jge FFIM feeler....

Any flow testing done on these? Particularly under boosted conditions? That's going to matter to people buying this sort of thing... They're not just for looks.

Well shit!!!! Sold my supra. Bad day.

I think the shift toward the JZ in the Mk3 community has been a good thing for all involved. JZ parts are now cheaper than they were 5-10 years ago, there is more of an aftermarket support, AND there are plentiful 7m's for those that need a new one once in a while. :p

Need a reliable, cheap dd (AKA I hate VW)

I'd second the 03-08 Corollas too, Matrix being a roomier option. Given what my buddy Dave has put his old 05 through, it's a wonder that that thing ever lasted this long. Well made cars... the new ones? Not quite so much it seems. The 09 he bought after paying off the 05 has given him a couple...

Limiting RPM in MG-E? Keep idiots from screwing me!

Don't mean to come off dissuading, certainly not. I admire your courage, and a car that's made it that long under such conditions! I would think you could wire something into the ignition system that cuts power at your desired RPM, but I wouldn't have any idea what exactly. Hopefully someone on...

Need a reliable, cheap dd (AKA I hate VW)

Eh, if you're looking for relatively new, roomy hatchback that's still reasonably easy to work on, I'd suggest a Mazda3 hatchback. I rather like my girlfriend's car, it's been good to her so far, just minor maintenance needed for the most part. :) Nice chassis too... really nice for a fwd car.

^That is beautiful sir... I'm a little jealous. :) Pics of the Celica? I'm guessing hardtop since it's a 73? I don't think we got the liftback until like 75 or 76...
