Jdub - i'm trying not to drive the car as much as is possible, definitely not for any long trips like the last week (i even hit 130+ mph on the way down there - not exactly my brightest idea, given my current knowledge!), and i'm going to build a block from scratch, and build it WELL :)
Apparrently it is, loads of people think it's 10, but when ed and a few others said 'er, it's 20psi' and then proved it with an aftermarket gauge... :)
Then again, ours might be different, due to our RHD leetness ;)
I see what you mean, although the 15w40 was available and is still working fine - my oil pressure is actually fine, seeing as i was going off that the first 'notch' on the pressure gauge isnt 10psi, but 20psi. Whoops.
Still, the new block is ready to be built upon (see other thread about...
Er - theres nothing wrong with the stock gasket if you're STOCK. Neither is there anything wrong with the stock bolts, if you're STOCK.
Going for ARP hardware on the top end is all very well if there was any intention of going for power. I realised that the 7M is a flawed design, but at the 72...
Bottom end i'm more concerned about. As i said, i'm just stock, the most i'll EVER push, is about 350bhp. I can barely use whatever i'm outputting at the moment, and toyota head bolts should be more than adequate as long as they're torqued down to 72lb/ft.
Using ARP bolts for the bottom end. Top end i'm just going to tick to standard bolts. The budget doesnt allow for more than the most essential expense!
rings i can always get elsewhere - for the price, even if just the pistons are the only thing good, its still a fair deal.
I'm just spoken to his holyness, i need 40 thou oversize, so i shall also be needing an 84mm headgasket - i'm NOT after a metal one, just a standard one will do me - Mr T...
Not looking for power, i'm looking for reasonable reliability. Plus, i have a budget to work to. The max i can spend on a set of pistons is about $350 - which is why those looked so tempting. I also have to get ARP's and a set of bearings, headgasket and a few other items...
I'm just going for a stock rebuild for my engine - not looking to push insane amounts of power - 300bhp is pretty much all i'm aiming for, and current setup is about stock, with the exception of the 3" elbow back exhaust (with HKS elbow), and no boost increase over the standard actuator.
I...
See, i did the same thing - i thought it was valvetrain too, but its worrying me, so its better safe than sorry and time to build a block from scratch.
Yeah it is expensive, although living in London makes it the most expensive place in the world to live...hopefully come september, i go back to university, which means halls of residence, and in reading or cardiff that = cheap!
