    Only concern I'd have doing it assembled is the Oil port to the Cams, I'd fill it with heavy grease before they started cutting then blow it out from the Cam side when done.

    "If" you have access to the root of the crack you could drill a small hole to prevent it continuing then Silver Braze the crack shut after thorough cleaning and that would stop it in it's tracks but that hinges on the "if".

    Motorsports is a very different environment to road use.... Cars are also inspected at regular intervals and the duration just isn't there. Road car can do 60K Km's a year easily a race car might be 1/10th of that if endurance raced. Work hardening is a time issue with aluminium.
