    building engine questions.

Does that thing have phasers and laser beams or what? That is way too high tech for a 7m :biglaugh:

Aaron's turbo & maft pro upgrades

I'm not all that happy with my Ross pistons. I got them several years ago, before I knew much about the difference between the brands of forged pistons. I have built several engines since with JE and they were a lot quieter and the pistons were less expensive. I am not trying to sell you JE. Buy...

    building engine questions.

In gixxer's defense, I had never even heard about the hardness test until you talked about it IJ.

    building engine questions.

Ummm errrr ahhhh you're being serious here? If so the "Hardness Tester" I described in another post uses a tiny metalic ball probably 3mm diameter and is a precision instrument metal, plastic, whats the damn difference :icon_bigg

Tell me why it won't spark!

There is an IGN fuse 7.5a for the alternator and airbag system power. Like I mentioned earlier, the alternator probably took a big hit from reverse voltage. Unplug the black connector on the back of the alternator and see if it is still shorted. There is a ECU-IG fuse 15a that is for everything...

Do mechanics, car audio installers, etc, like working on your car?

:biglaugh: Thank god they had a tall dude design the front seats! I think an american designed the front seats and a midget japanese guy designed the back seats!

Aaron's turbo & maft pro upgrades

UPDATE! I had to order a bunch of parts but I amlost have everything now! I got a oil line kit from MDC motorsports, a 3" bend for my downpipe, and a v-band and flange. I went today to get a 45* adaptor to make the oil return hose fit a little better. The turbo has a big compressor on it so...

Do mechanics, car audio installers, etc, like working on your car?

I don't think there are many Supras being worked on at dealerships anymore. I talk to Toyota parts guys almost every day and they rarely see a Supra at a dealership these days. We have had the Toyota parts guys send us work! LOL turbo mk3 is as easy to work on as a Camry? :biglaugh: "you so crazy"

Tell me why it won't spark!

Oh no, that is bad :( Basically anything that polarity sensitive could be fried, but I will cross my fingers for you. Main alternator fuse blew so alternator could be bad. Diodes in alternator don't like 100 amp+ reverse polarity spikes! ECU could be bad :( Also (you probably already...

Do mechanics, car audio installers, etc, like working on your car?

My thoughts exactly. I can do a spark plug change in 20 minutes on my own car too, but does that mean I would charge $15?

Do mechanics, car audio installers, etc, like working on your car?

We are talking about general mechanics here... Doing a simple spark plug change a "non supra" guy could possibly break: accordian hose lawnmower cover wiring harness coil pack wiring pcv hoses temp sensors fan shroud strip plug holes crack iac hoses :biglaugh::biglaugh: :biglaugh:

Do mechanics, car audio installers, etc, like working on your car?

I think the real reason they don't want to work on the car is that everything on a 7m-gte is very time consuming and people don't want to pay what the mechanic would have to charge for his time. Most mechanics are $75 an hour so even a basic job like changing spark plugs on a Supra might cost...

How hard is it to change engine mounts while the engine is in the car???

Yes you feel the motor more with solid mounts..... at idle, when it is reving, when it is under boost, basically all the time you will feel the motor running and vibrating everything in the car including you LOL It's not THAT bad but it can be very annoying in a daily driver and all your...

Do mechanics, car audio installers, etc, like working on your car?

Complaining about working on your customers car is bad, advising them of possible difficulties is not. It's part of the deal when you take on an older car though. I used to work on beaters sometimes at Good Guys and I would just let people know up front about possible parts that may crack when...

Were the jumper cables possibly hooked up backwards for a sec?

How hard is it to change engine mounts while the engine is in the car???

Ok, lets not go to far here. The oil pans get a dent in them when someone tries to LIFT THE ENTIRE CAR WITH THE JACK UNDER THE OIL PAN. The oil pan can easily handle the weight of the engine itself with a wood block, which is why I said to loosen the lower motor mount nuts first and only...
