Computer Nerd's Help needed: Intel Core Duo vs. AMD 64bit Turion

7900gt is less then $100 more and comes in many different brands if you don't like Evga. For any 3d games the video card is arguably the most critical part in the pc.

Computer Nerd's Help needed: Intel Core Duo vs. AMD 64bit Turion

Doom3 at anything less then 60fps would be totally worthless. I would loose every Doom3 game online with 35fps.

Computer Nerd's Help needed: Intel Core Duo vs. AMD 64bit Turion

Defective how? Somehow I always am sceptical when someone says a pc component is doa. There are so many things like cabling, drivers, type of memory used, bios, etc, that can make a good part seem defective. I'm sure the video cards are tested before packaging. I can say that I have given up...

Computer Nerd's Help needed: Intel Core Duo vs. AMD 64bit Turion

Don't skimp on the video card. I just picked up a evga 7900gt and it is freakin great. It was only $290 bundled with AOE III. I have a AMD 64 3500+ processor and a Abit AX8 motherboard and I light people up all day long on Doom3 online. I am "007" on Doom3, when you get your new pc going look...

    still hesitating under boost.

Get a wideband on there, you could be running way lean and not know it. When my stock fpr vacuum line popped of it did what you are describing. It was under the manifold so it was hard to see.

    G-Tec 0-60 times?

I used my friends g-tek in my Ford truck and it did 0-60 in 21sec and 1/4 mile in 21 sec at 60mph :biglaugh: 76ft/lbs ftw! I used it in my Supra and I was able to pull 1.15g's on a normal street corner!

    Do your own oil changes!

I think the o ring expands after it gets hot or something. I've never had one not come off with a screwdriver stuck through both sides of the filter. I have not paid someone else to change my oil in probably 10 years though.

GTEpower.com/GTE powered engines with 500+ RWHP site coming soon/sort of...

    So we agree then: 230hp x2 = 460hp (crank) 460hp - 15% (drivetrain loss) = 391 wheel hp. Rounded up makes 400 whp :biglaugh:

    Are electric fans worth it?

I was personally talking about the Flex-a-Lite Black Magic fans on a Supra with increased hp output. I didn't really consider a bone stock 7m in a racing situation, because frankly, that would be a little bit boring :biglaugh: SPAL makes a dual fan that is capable of cooling a modded 7m or 1jz...

    Are electric fans worth it?

If you guys are running flex-a-lites and not overheating, then you are not really driving. Do a good canyon run or hit the track where you are on boost for extended periods and it WILL overheat.

    Are electric fans worth it?

You'll only see a hydrofan or clutch fan on my car! I've had electric fan motors seize and relays/connectors fail. Never had a problerm with a mechanical fan.

So you think if you line up 100 peoples cars from SM at random, 50 of them are going to be over 400WHP? I really dont think so.
