That link will burn like a fuse above a specific amperage for a specific amount of time. Blown fuses or fusable links are not the actual problem though, just a sign of a problem somewhere in the circuit they protect.

Sounds like loose battery or alternator connections to me too. Check all the engine grounds too. They get loose or corroded over time, it may be a good time for a whole new set of cables. Only costs maybe $30 total from Auto Zone.

No, there was Soarer, Chaser and Mark 2 if I remember right. There are differences in motor mounts, oil pan and pickup, throttle body, wire harness, etc.... The 1jz's that sell for cheap will be the ones that will cost you more in the end buying all the stuff you need to drop it into a mk3...
