*I* am from Brooklyn!
(Well originally anyway...)
I grew up in NYC.
I spent the first 25 years of my life in the NY Metro area.
And I somehow managed to learn to speak English...
Nope, sorry, that excuse isn't going to cut it. :D
------
On a serious note. I really don't like having to...
Confusing "A" and "AN" is another one that drives me completely batshit.
"I have AN Super-AFC for sale"
Ugh...
"A" goes before all words that begin with consonants.
a super-afc
a supra
a dumbass
a boobie
a big brown cigar
with one exception: Use an before unsounded h.
an honorable...
Write in clear, grammatical, correctly-spelled language
Most of us have found by experience that people who are careless and sloppy writers are usually (there are exceptions) careless and sloppy at thinking and working on cars. Answering questions for careless and sloppy thinkers is not...
Two reasons:
Toyota priced themselves out of the market. The Toyota badge doesn't (or didn't at the time) have the name recognition. And at the time where a brand new MKIV was $50,000 you could have a Porche for the same money.
-and-
The moronic CAFE standards here in the US killed...
This is factually incorrect. 1998 USDM N/A MKIV Supra's had the 2JZ-GE with VVT-i.
I've seen quite a few NA->T VVT-i cars. In general VVT-i cars tend to make a little bit more power. Lots of people mod them and I've never seen anyone "ignore and backhand" a MKIV because it had VVT-i. They are a...
Here's one of my pet peeves. MKIII
People who pronounce it "Em K Three" really irritate the shit out of me.
MK has always been the abbreviation for "Mark" - (usually initial capital letter) U.S. Military. a designation for an item of military equipment in production, used in combination with a...
If you have a problem with the decisions of the administration staff send a PM.
This behavior you are displaying right now is not helping your case one iota. This is not how things are done around here, and as a former staff member, you know full well the response this sort of behavior...
"Take care of the people and the work takes care of itself..."
This has always worked for me. Hire good people, compensate them as highly as you can and they more than pay you back for it.
$.15 per hour raise? To me that is an insult. It's like leaving a waitress a $.02 tip.
That may be a...
Most people don't consider what it costs to run a big forum. They see this bullshit $7 - $25 per month hosting and say "Hey, I can do that!".
They don't realize that once you get past having a couple of people on line at the same time, it gets pricey. Once you've got 1/2 a milliion posts and...
Whoa there Little Buckeroo! :)
SM isn't in any danger of closing. If that were the case there would be stickys everywhere saying "help save SM".
If you want to help out, sure, go ahead. But there's no danger of SM going anywhere.
No, the reason we lost the old site in early 2003 was phpBB. It got hacked by some script kiddie. After that we upgraded to a fully supported commerical forum.
I won't turn down the help and it's greatly appreciated. But not necessary. If I ever get in another tight spot, I'll let you guys know.
I've always shied away from that paid model thing. But SM does get more and more expensive to run every year.
I don't know. A lot of people besides me would have to decide we wanted to go that way...
I'd rather keep doing things the way we do now. With people shooting the occasional $5, $10...
Yea, remember this site has no paid vendors, advertisers or sponsors. Just me. It's a single server at the moment. I've given thought to buying a new pair of boxes and splitting them, but that's a lot of cash outlay for a "non profit" site.
Since I moved the file attachments out of the db an...
The database is getting big. It's eating lots of memory.
Unfortunately, server ram is a little more money than workstation stuff:
http://www.cdw.com/shop/products/default.aspx?EDC=348189
Over $350 a gig.
If anyone wants to help with the ram, my paypal is webmaster@supracentral.com...
