There are plenty of ultra compact .45's out there. The Glock 26 is under 6" long. The Bersa Thunder .45 is easily concealed even in casual wear.

I picked up a box of .45 Black Hills 230 gr JHP's today at the range. Seems like nice stuff. Shot about 1/2 a box of it after I ran out of hardball and it seems to be damned consistent stuff.

As for your inaccuracy problems, it sounds like "limp wrist" syndrome. It take a bit of strength to fire a .45 with accuracy. Also the trigger pull of the gun should allow you to squeeze it, not pull it. Pulling a trigger will guarantee a miss (usually to the right of the target if you are right...
