JJ, the dipstick thing is real. My 90T was impossible to read except when cold and then only in bright light. It is the most complicated dipstick ever with a wire cable that is swaged to a shiny gold colored bullet. I imagine they spent serious development money coming up with this design. The...
Getting the pulley off is only half the battle. You will need to torque it to 197 ft-lbs when you put it back on. Try doing that with the starter! If its a manual, put it in 5th gear and chock the wheels. That will stop it spinning if your clutch is good. If its an automatic then you need...
There is an old thread on supraforums where Dean Marcum offers some insight on the FPD. I have the Cole's notes below, or you can follow the link yourself
http://www.supraforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=249037
Here's the summary....
The screw is there to pre-load the dampner spring...
Presumably the system is empty so there is nothing to reclaim. Otherwise, the simple advice would be to get a shop to reclaim it, then do the work yourself.
A nice new Robinair vac pump can be had for $250. Lots of them on Ebay.
I got my 609 cert for $20 after a read through of the study...
The purpose of the FPD is to smooth out the pressure spikes that occur when an injector closes. These spikes are too fast to be seen by a typical fuel pressure gauge. It is entirely analogous to water hammer that occurs when you shut off a water valve quickly in your home. The spikes do cause...
Change the oil and filter (obviously) , then, when you have the thing apart connect a drill to the oil pump drive pulley and spin it CW. You can do this with the head and turbo off but be prepared for oil to shoot out of the disconnected holes in the block. Then change the oil and filter and...
JD, when I did this I put two beads along the interface between the timing cover and block as shown here in the TSRM
http://www.cygnusx1.net/supra/library/TSRM/em/EM_55.html
A little bit does get squeezed out onto the block surface. I assume that is okay.
Its weird to me that oil...
Up under the dash on the left side of the steering column beside the brake pedal pivot there is a big odd shaped metal box with the engine code in big letters written on it. That is the SM CPU, and there is a reset button on it. Might be worth giving it a push. Also, inside the CPU is a...
He says he has oil pooled in his lower intake plenum. A leak that big should be creating clouds of smoke and have an obvious source. What failed gasket are you thinking it might be?
Did you know that the turbo cap is shorter than the NA cap? Most aftermarket rads use the N/A cap dimensions. If you carryover your turbo cap it will not fit right.
I'm a bit confused. Did you already rebuild the head? Its hard to believe you could fill the intake ports with oil from a leaking valve seal. I guess it is possible that the seal is not on properly for one of the #3 intake valves but even with no seal the valve stems are a pretty snug fit in...
Yeah, okay you win! :biglaugh:
.... But basic physics still applies. Both the bolts and the studs are made from the same material (190,000 psi). Okay, so what's the difference between them. For studs, the nut rotates on the fixed bolt, and the thread friction is both less and stays more...
