My main reason, really. I don't have much if any stand alone ECU experience.

I tried some research in relation to engine load, rear gear, and turbo spool. With load in mind; How will a large turbo 7M perform with a 4.10 or 4.30 LSD rear gear? (5-speed manual transmission.) Would boost lag increase? Just curious! -B

Nope, I use a $200-700 piece of equipment to blow up my old and tired 7M... then do another stock rebuild and repeat :) I agree though, I wouldn't go the way of the dinosaur with a BUILT motor, brand new.

What kind of plugs... electrical? Clutch engage safety button? Backup lights?

I choose the VPC route with the S-AFC. Plenty of people have gone over 600hp with it. You cannot tune every aspect with it, but it's considerably cheaper than a stand alone ECU. Maybe one day though.

I don't hear any slipping.

I never put a mesh over mine, but that's a good idea too.

IJ has posted several degrees C drop in intake temps with his routing. I'm going to do the laundry dryer hose mod when I finish installing the vpc... then just run that.
