Throw it on counterclock wise, piston #1 at zero on the cover (tdc) and cam gear dots alinged with the marks on the back cover.
There should be no slack going from the crank gear, to the intake and exhaust cam, and the slack between the ex cam and the crank gear. Install tensioner, and...

I also run a GT40-88 turbo. Full spool by 4k. I rev my motor to 8k. No problems at all :) It starts spooling almost off idle, its very responsive.
A 1JZGTE spools a turbo a few hundred RPM later then a 2JZGTE (1-300)...
