    it happens to my MK4 as well, someone told me it could be the engine mount. or it could me shock. This is supposed to be common on Mk4's. I'm getting Megan Racing Coilovers and TRD Engine Mounts soon so i'll know. http://mkiv.com/techarticles/front_end_popping_noise/index.html

    Engine died while driving

    i think thats tooo much honestly. i know shops here that would replace it for $800. Hell, i think Kaizen Motorsports would even do it for less than $1k for a 7mge swap and they know what they're doing. Rebuilding is a different story as it takes time and machine work.

    i guess it all depends how much you trust your kids. i'm glad my parents didn't pay an instructor to teach me. in fact, i didn't even really take any classes when i got my license by age 16. I did get my Mk3 and 93 Camry for free though. However, I did pay for my own mk4.

    hah... i got my mk3 89na auto supra at 15 and a half and got my license at 16 and 1month old. then my mark4 at 19 =]
