    release hub question

The release hub should not need to be replaced, unless it's damaged. If this is the case, then by all means, however it should be nearly impossible to damage it under anything which can be described as normal operation. Similarly the snap rings should not "lose tension" because they're not...

Changing my head gasket, me asking for your help while doing this

Speed-source used to have a charge pipe. I had one back when I was rocking the CT-26, but when I got my Turbonetics, I decided that the 2" diameter wasn't a good fit. It's too bad that they don't make that pipe anymore, it was a really nice piece at a great price. It was a 2" steel pipe that...

What did you do to your supra today? Pics

The Stereo no-solder wiring harness works great. I've used them in numerous vehicles, and have been very happy with them, including while competing in IASCA SQ competition. When I was more serious about it, I used to pull the wires out of them and put the connectors on the aftermarket stereo's...

Changing my head gasket, me asking for your help while doing this

It's the exhaust side of the engine, but the INTAKE side of the turbo. Dealing with the intake air, as opposed to the downpipe on the hotside of the turbo. Is your climate control on "defrost" by any chance? If it is, it tries to use the A/C in order to dry the air in the car.

What did you do to your supra today? Pics

Pro: Holds 400+ ft-lbs torque, with stock-like engagement. Con: ... Not sure. Not so good if you're well over 400 ft-lbs torque, I suppose.

    quietest mufflers out there..!??

I have the Tanabe Hyper Medallion. RT downpipe, LIPP elbow, no cat. I've noted that at most meets, mine is the quietest car there. Lots of other people can't even hear when I rev over their car at cruise. It was pricey, but I enjoy the quiet.

    loud fan

From this, I'll operate under the assumption that it wasn't long enough for me to notice between the starter noise and the engine starting while the intake manifold isn't under vacuum.

Changing my head gasket, me asking for your help while doing this

Are you sure that it's coming from that area. Directionality is a funny thing in cars. The climate control has a few things which are motorised, vent adjusters and the like. You could be hearing some of that from the passenger side air ducts. The valve for the heater core will open (If it...

    Compressor surge?

Make sure that the BOV that you have is adequate to the job. The flow data for the turbo is a known. The performance data for the BOV is known. Put 2 and 2 together, and try not to come up with 3.25. Not quite. According to Einstein, insanity is trying the exact same thing, and expecting to...

    7MGTE fan clutch

The clutch is thermostatic. It engages or disengages based on temperature. I've never seen any behavior to indicate otherwise. If I were to go out and dig my car out from under the snow, I would expect the fan to move pretty smoothly, seeing as how it's really cold, and there is no need for the...

Stumbled upon this list of mods today...I'm a little skeptical

As with anything else, make sure you understand why a mod works before you try it. SOGI is pretty much dead. I think that my email address is still subscribed. Haven't got anything from it in years. Places like this offer a more robust line of communication anyway. Air flapper and temp sensor...

    7m head

The crossmember is different for the square mounts vs the round mounts. You need mounts that match the crossmember. So you need to either get the conversion mounts from driftmotion, or fab up your own, or else you need to swap the crossmember from a 1989.5-1992 A70 chassis. I would suggest that...

    7m head

QFT. 500WHP is where it's borderline for cost on the 7M vs the JZ. where it costs a similar amount, both starting from stockish. 400WHP is (IMO) where the 7M is clearly more economical to get to, maybe 450 if you're careful. Note, I have an '89. Mine does NOT have the round motor mounts. That...

    Aftermarket water temp gauge

It MAY work with the stock sender, though the readings may not be exact. Better to use the sensor that came with the gauge. What will not work is to leave the factory gauge connected while you 'tap in' the aftermarket. The sensor is basically a variable resistor, where the resistance decreases...

    loud fan

It's not supposed to do that. I had a brand new OEM fan clutch, and when first started up, it was really quiet. It only started to approach loud when it was really hot out, AND had been running hard. I could see it MAYBE if you have major heat soak, IE, the radiator is really hot, the air is...

7mgte Opinion needed. Help! 87 Gte motor to 89 NA supra???

According to Jeff Lange, there was only one electronics package for the '89, and it was the same all year. The only thing that changed mid-year on the '89 was the crossmember, where it changed from the older square motor mounts to the newer round (Compatable with the JZ blocks) motor mounts. The...

7mgte Opinion needed. Help! 87 Gte motor to 89 NA supra???

I have an '87 GTE motor in my '89NA chassis now. I bought the complete car, which had everything that I needed. I also bought a complete gasket set and replaced all of the gaskets and seals throughout. The head gasket had gone, and the rod bearings followed about 3 years after I installed the...

    projected horsepower rating?

I didn't dyno my car, so I've no idea what it was making in RWHP, but it had no trouble keeping up to the local Mustangs and Beamers. After dropping in the GTE engine, I had: Spearco replica IC, with 2.5" hardpiping 3" cone air filter Lexus/550s Koyo radiator Stock head gasket with ARP studs...
